Designing a Hand-Painted Floral Paisley

For this print, the client was looking for a roadmap to set the tone of the collection. Their inspiration was a tropical watercolor print that featured botanical leaves and paisley motifs that blended together seamlessly stylistically but were also very unexpected.

Option One

I approached the print from two angles, creating two roadmaps. This first one featured bolder more angular motifs, while the second iteration below felt much softer.

Option 2

While the artwork created for the first iteration of the print was a bit more detailed and similar to that of the inspiration, the second iteration took a softer slightly more wearable approach.

The artwork for both options made into final prints

And then color reduced and converted into the color palette

Option 2 was chosen as the collection’s roadmap piece
